A great and very large Internet tutorial covering the basics of the web (the history of the net, getting connected, monitor settings, modems, etc.), email, newsgroups, multimedia, searching the Internet, and how to publish on the Internet.

Searchenginewatch provides information on searching the web and individual search engines. Search Engine Math (http://www.searchenginewatch.com/facts/math.html) teaches the basic commands that help improve searching the web. Search Engine Facts and Fun (http://www.searchenginewatch.com/facts/index.html) lists and gives the characteristics of major search engines, MetaSearch engines, and many of the smaller search engines and directories. Search Assistance Features (http://www.searchenginewatch.com/facts/assistance.html) provides information on many of the very useful features provided by individual search engines. Electric Library allows you to search through the text of over 150 full-text newspapers; hundreds of full text magazines; national and international news wires; 2,000 complete works of literature; television, radio, and government transcripts, and more. You can search the site for free, but to actually access any of the articles you have to be a subscriber. They offer one month free use, if you wish to continue to use the site after the free 30 days are over it will cost you 9.95 per month or 59.95 per year. Northern Light Special Collection is an online library comprised of 5,400 full-text journals, books, magazines, newswires, and reference sources.  You can search the special collection from the power search page (http://www.northernlight.com). Clicking on the results will take you to a summary and publication information for each article; it costs between $1 and $3 to download the complete text.
